Food grade calcium hydroxide is extracted by processing and refining lime to remove heavy metals and other harmful substances. This additive is a soft and fine white powder with high activity, loose structure, high purity (can reach analytical purity), and good whiteness. , fine fineness and low impurity content. After 500℃, it loses bound water and becomes calcium oxide. It absorbs carbon dioxide in the air and turns into calcium carbonate. It is soluble in acid, slightly soluble in water, and insoluble in alcohol.


Food-grade calcium hydroxide is mainly used in the pharmaceutical industry for the synthesis of calcium preparations. It serves as a raw material in the production of calcium naphthenate, calcium lactate, calcium citrate, etc. In addition, it is also used as a pharmaceutical additive and a raw material for the synthesis of high-tech biological material HA (hydroxyapatite).
In the food industry, food-grade calcium hydroxide is used as an acidity regulator, calcium source and coagulant. In milk powder, it acts as an acidity regulator to adjust the pH value and as a calcium source. The addition level in infant formula is generally 0.2–0.5%.
